9:36pm EST
Seat 59C, AC Flight 0001
Somewhere in the air over a big fuckin mess of water
**yes, I know EST is inappropriate, and I’ve probably passed over the international dateline, but I’m not smart enough to figure that out, and the part of my seat-mounted computer that has the little map of the world and it shows where the little version of your plane right now is, is down. So I’m saying we’re still in Ontario.
Thought I’d add in some ‘Gabe’s travelling experiences’ fun facts. (By the way, this post is probably best filed under the category ‘I should probably be freaking out more than I am’).
1. Gabe’s travelling fun facts (historical)
- Not even including the way back to Canada, this trip has two flights longer than any flight I’ve ever taken (last record was 4 hours something Vancouver to Toronto… trying to remember if I did Seattle to Toronto too… but that would be a similar flightime. I’ve now been in the air over 8 hours, and there’s almost five more before I land… then another 6.5 in the next flight.).
- This is the first time I’ve flown alone.
- This is the first time I’ve travelled internationally (not including US or Bahamas… but cruises sooo don’t count).
2. Gabe’s travelling fun facts (present and future)
- The airport in Bangkok is new since 2 years ago, and is not listed in my Lonely Planet guide, so even if I did want to find a reasonably-priced hotel that’s reasonably close to the airport, so I could crash for the night, I wouldn’t be able to.
- I still don’t have my flight booked from Bangkok to Siem Reap.
- The Bangkok Airlines office will most likely be closed by the time I get to Bangkok, so I won’t be able to buy my ticket to Siem Reap until a couple house before actually flying out.
- I still don’t have plans as to how I’m getting from the Siem Reap airport to where I have to go – not that I know where I am supposed to be going from there…
