Intro

Hi all,

So almost every single time I’ve mentioned my trip to anyone, one of the first reactions has been, “Are you going to blog?” (Reactions from elderly relatives generally utilize different wording.) My answer has always been something involving a shrug and some words about writing something, not online, and telling people stories when I got home. I wasn’t sure I’d have internet access throughout, and thought blogging might just get in the way of actually enjoying my travels.

But here’s the thing.

The moment I got on the plane, I felt an overwhelming urge to start writing. So I’m blogging. Happy?

A couple notes:

1. I’m still not sure how often I’ll have internet access, so while I’ll try to write on a regular basis, I may not be able to post on a regular basis. So expect bunches of entries being posted together, at random points during the trip.
2. From the looks of things, I’m so far writing a lot while ‘in transit.’ Like a huge amount. Mostly because I’m bored. Once I arrive, I’ll likely be a lot busier, and write a lot less.
3. For family members and little ones (Claire Elizabeth, that’s you), I warn I may use rude language and discuss adult subject matter - something tells me prostitution may come up once or twice. Fucking deal with it, you cunts.
4. For the University of Guelph Research Ethics Board, please ignore this blog, or at the very least, blame Dr. Ian Lubek (Department of Psychology, ilubek@uoguelph.ca) for any breaches of confidentiality that may find their way onto this blog. Fucking deal with it, you bureaucratic but ethical cunts.
5. For everyone, this blog will likely contain excessive amounts of introspection and naval-gazing. Sorry in advance. Also, it will contain repeated references to the fact that I’m in Southeast Asia and you’re not. Because you’re not. And I am. Unless you’re Ashley, James, or maybe a couple of others – in which case you are in Southeast Asia, and we should totally meet up and hang.
